KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 50
GENESIS 50
1 Joseph fell upon his father, and wept over him and kissed him.
This part of KING JAMES VERSION will be added later on.
2 Then Joseph commanded the physicians at his service to embalm his father; so the physicians embalmed Israel.
.....
3 It took forty days to embalm Israel because it requires that many days for those who are embalmed in Egypt, and the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.
.....
4 When the days of mournign were past, Joseph spake to the court of Pharaoh, saying, "If now I have found acceptance in your sight, speak kindly to Pharaoh, saying:
.....
5 "My father made me pledge, saying, 'I am passing on; you must bury me in my grave which has been prepared for me in the land of Canaan.' Now therefore, please let me go there and bury my father, and I will return to you."
.....
6 And Pharaoh said, "Go there to bury your father according to your pledge.
.....
7 So Joseph went to bury his father. All the servants of Pharaoh, along with the officers of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, went with him.
.....
8 The entire household of Joseph, and his brothers, and his father's household went to Canaan; they only left in the land of Goshen their household servants, and their livestock.
.....
9 And he went there with a very large company including both chariots and horsemen.
.....
10 Now they came to the floor of Atad to thrash out the negation of Life, which is a descending thought, and there they mourned with great and painful weeping, and he mourned for his father seven days.
.....
11 When the inhabitants of that state of thought, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the floor of Atad, they said, "This is grievous mourning for the Egyptians, wherefore it was called tribulation, or Abel-mizraim, which is a descending feeling beyond the Jordan.
.....
12 And his sons obeyed him according to his commandment,
.....
13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and they buried him in a convoluted cave in the field of Machpelah, which Abraham secured from Ephron of Heth (the king of terror) as a possession for a buryingplace for the subdued and broken thought, before the advent of lifting up, called Mamre.
.....
14 After he buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers, and all that went with him to bury his father.
.....
15 When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, "Joseph will perhaps hate us, and will certainly repay us for all the evil which we did to him."
.....
16 So they sent a messenger to Joseph, saying, "This is what your father commanded to us before he died:
.....
17 'You should say to Joseph, 'Kindly forgive the trespasses of your brothers, and their sin, for they were evil to you, and now, please forgive them who are the servants of the God of your father.'" But Joseph wept when he heard them speak this to him.
.....
18 And his brothers also wept and fell before him in reverence; and they said, "We are your slaves."
.....
19 And Joseph said to them, "Fear not, for can man be God? No! The almighty I-am is God.
.....
20 "But as for you, you thought to do evil against me, but God is the only doer and does good only, as it has been to this day, preserving man.
.....
21 "Now therefore do not fear; I will continue to support both you and your households." Thereby he comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.
.....
22 So Joseph dwelt in the positive truth of which Egypt is the negation, with his kindred, remaining with them for 110 years.
.....
23 Joseph remained until the third generation of Ephraim's children, also the children of Machir, Manasseh's son, who were counted as his own, being brought to him at birth.
.....
24 And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to pass on, but God will certainly be with you, and bring you out of this state as he pledged to Abraham, to Issac and to Jacob."
.....
25 Now Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, "God will certainly direct you, and you must carry my remains^ with you from here."
.....
26 So Joseph gave up the ghost of material life, being an 110 years old, and they embalmed him, and his body was put in a coffin in Egypt.
