KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 47
GENESIS 47
1 Then Joseph told Pharaoh, saying, "My father and my brothers, and their flocks and their herds, and all that they own, have come from the land of Canaan; and now they are in Goshen."
This part of KING JAMES VERSION will be added later on.
2 And he took five of his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh.
.....
3 So Pharaoh asked his brothers, "What is your occupation?" They answered Pharaoh, "Your servants are shepherds as our fathers were."
.....
4 Moreover they said to Pharaoh, "We have come to settle in the land for now; for we, your servants, have no pasture for our flocks due to the severity of the famine in the land of Canaan; now therefore, kindly let us, your servants, dwell in the land of Goshen."
.....
5 And Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, "Your father and your brothers have come to you.
.....
6 "The land of Egypt is before you; have your father and your brothers dwell in the best of the land, in the land of Goshen let them dwell, and if you know any men of ability among them, then make them superintendents of my cattle."
.....
7 So Joseph brought Jacob, his father, to present him to Pharaoh, and Jacob greeted Pharaoh.
.....
8 At which Pharaoh asked Jacob, "How old are you?"
.....
9 Jacob replied to Pharaoh, "My pilgrimage on earth has been 130 years; the years of my life have been few and hard, and I have not attained the longevity of my fathers' pilgrimage."
.....
10 Then Jacob bid Pharaoh farewell, and went out from before Pharaoh.
.....
11 And Joseph placed his father and his brothers in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land of Egypt, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded, and gave the land to them to possess.
.....
12 Then Joseph nourished his father and his brothers, and his father's household, with food according to their numbers.
.....
13 So there was no food in all the land as the famine became very bitter, so that the state of Egypt and all the state of Canaan was failing because of the famine.
.....
14 Now Joseph exacted all the money that was to be found in the state of Egypt, and in the state of Canaan, for the food which they bought; and Joseph brought the money to Pharaoh's palace.
.....
15 When the people's money was exhausted in the state of Egypt, and in the state of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph, and implored him, "Give us food, for why should we perish in your presence because our money is spent?"
.....
16 Joseph replied, "I will give you food in exchange for your cattle, if your money is exhausted."
.....
17 So they brought their cattle to Joseph; and Joseph exchanged food for their horses, for their flocks, and for their herds of cattle, and for their donkeys, feeding them with food for all their cattle that year.
.....
18 When that year was finished, they came to him again the second year, and beseeched him, "We will not hide it from our lord that our money is spent; our lord also has acquired our herds of cattle; there is nothing left in sight for our lord except our bodies and our lands.
.....
19 "Why should we perish in your presence and our land perish? Exchange food for our land and for ourselves, and we and our land will serve Pharaoh, but give us seed so that we might survive and not perish, nor let the land become desolate."
.....
20 So Joseph acquired all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians exchanged each property for food, because the famine persisted against them; therefore the land became Pharaoh's.
.....
21 And Joseph moved the people into the cities, from one end of Egypt to the other.
.....
22 But he did not acquire the land of the priests because Pharaoh had granted them a portion from which they could eat; this is why they did not relinquish their lands.
.....
23 Then Joseph said to the people, "Now I have enslaved you and acquired your land for Pharaoh this day; here is seed with which you must sow the land.
.....
24 "And it will be that you will pay one fifth of the crop to Pharaoh, and the remaining four fifths will be your own for seed to sow, and for food, and for those in your households, and for food for your household servants."
.....
25 And they replied, "You have saved our lives; let us find grace in the sight of our lord, and we will become Pharaoh's bondmen."
.....
26 So Joseph made it a law in the state of Egypt until this day, that Pharaoh should have one fifth of the crops, except for the land of the priests, which was not Pharaoh's.
.....
27 Israel dwelt in the state of Egypt, in the region of Goshen, and they had properties there and were exceedingly prosperous.
.....
28 And Jacob dwelt in the state of Egypt for seventeen years, so Jacob reached the age of 147 years.
.....
29 When the time came that Israel was to finish his pilgrimage on earth, he called for his son Joseph, and asked him, "If now I have found grace in your sight, please pledge honestly and generously to me that you will not bury me in Egypt.
.....
30 "But that I will rest with my fathers, and you will carry me out of Egypt to bury me in their burying place," and he agreed to do as his father had requested.
.....
31 And he said, "Affirm it to me." So he affirmed it to him. Then Israel yielded to the destiny of the bed.
