THE MELCHIZEDEK BIBLE
KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 40
GENESIS 40
1 After these things, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his cook had offended their ruler, the king of Egypt.
This part of KING JAMES VERSION will be added later on.
2 Now Pharaoh was enraged against these two officers of his, against the chief of the cupbearers and the chief of the cooks.
.....
3 So he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, where Joseph was held in prison.
.....
4 Then the captain of the guard put Joseph in charge of them, and he looked over them, as they were in custody for a season.
.....
5 Once, in the same night, each of them which were held in the prison - the cupbearer and the cook of the ruler of Egypt - had a dream with its own interpretation.
.....
6 Now Joseph saw that they were sad when he came to them in the morning.
.....
7 So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in the custody of his master's prison, "Why do you look so sad today?"
.....
8 Then they replied to him, "We have dreamed dreams and there is no one to interpret them for us." Replying, Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell me them."
.....
9 So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, relating, "In my dream I beheld a vine that was before me;
.....
10 "On the vine were three branches, and it was as though it budded, and its blossoms burst forth as its clusters brought forth ripe grapes,
.....
11 "Pharaoh's cup was in my hand, and taking the grapes, I pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I passed the cup into Pharaoh's hand."
.....
12 So Joseph said to him, "This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.
.....
13 "In three days Pharaoh will free you and restore you to your place, and you will deliver Pharaoh's cup to his hand, as when you were his cupbearer.
.....
14 "But remember me when it is well with you, and please show me kindness, mentioning me to Pharaoh to bring me out of this condition.
.....
15 "For I was truly stolen from my native state and from my countrymen, the Hebrews, and here also have I done nothing to deserve this dungeon."
.....
16 When the chief cook saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, "I also dwelt in my dream, and it was that I had three bread baskets on my head,
.....
17 "In the uppermost basket there was all sorts of confections for Pharaoh, but the birds ate them out of the basket upon my head."
.....
18 Joseph answered, saying, "This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days,
.....
19 "In three days Pharaoh will take your head off and will impale you on a stake, and the birds will eat the flesh off of your body."
.....
20 Now on Pharaoh's birthday, which was the third day, he made a feast for all his servants, and he set the chief cupbearer and the chief cook free among his servants.
.....
21 Then he restored the chief cupbearer to his former position, so he gave the cup to Pharaoh's hand,
.....
22 But he executed the chief cook, as Joseph had interpreted to them.
.....
23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember to mention Joseph, so he was forgotten.
