GENESIS

THE MELCHIZEDEK BIBLE KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 34 GENESIS 34

Dinah, the daughter of Leah and Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land. This part of KING JAMES VERSION will be added later on.
But when Dinah was seen by Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite and ruler of the country, he took her and defiled her. .....
Yet he showed affection for the damsel, speaking tenderly to her as he burned with desire for Dinah, the daughter of Jacob. .....
So Shechem requested his father to get the damsel for him to be his wife. .....
When Jacob heard that Shechem had violated his daughter Dinah, his sons were tending his livestock, so Jacob held his peace until they came in from the field. .....
Then Hamor, the father of Shechem, went out to commune with Jacob. .....
As soon as Jacob's sons heard that Hamor had come to commune with Jacob, the men came in from the field, and they were grieved and very angry because Shechem had wrought folly in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, which thing ought not to be done. .....
Yet Hamor communed with them, pleading, "My son Shechem longs for your daughter, please allow her to marry him. .....
"And let marriages occur between our people and your people, giving your daughters to us and taking our daughters for yourselves. .....
"You may live among us; the land is available to you, dwell in it and move about freely acquiring your possessions in it." .....
Then Shechem said to Jacob's clan and to Dinah, "Let me find grace in your sight and I will give you whatever you ask of me. .....
"Ask me for any amount of dowry and gift, and I will give according to your request, but only give me the damsel in marriage." .....
Since Shechem had defiled Dinah their sister, the sons of Jacob answered him and Hamor, his father, deceitfully. .....
So they told them, "We cannot give our sister to anyone who is uncircumcised, for that is a reproach to us, .....
"But this is what we will consent to do: if every male among you will be circumcised as we are, .....
"Then will we allow our daughters to be taken in marriage by you, and we will allow your daughters to be taken in marriage by us, and we will dwell with you and we will become one people. .....
"But if you will not agree to be circumcised, then we will take our daughters and leave from here." .....
And their proposition was acceptable to Hamor and his son Shechem. .....
So the young man did not delay in complying with the proposal, because he delighted in the thought of Jacob's daughter, and he was the most honoured of all those in his father's house. .....
Now Hamor and his son Shechem approached so as to find the citizens of their city receptive and communed with them, saying, .....
"These men are at peace with us; therefore, let them dwell in the land and move about freely, for there is enough room for them; let us intermarry with them. .....
"But the men will only agree to dwell with us, to be as one people, if every male among us is circumcised just as they are circumcised. .....
"Will not their cattle and their possessions, as well as their animals, become ours? We only need to consent and they will dwell with us." .....
Since the citizens were all at the threshold of his magnetic influence, they were receptive to Hamor and his son Shechem and that's why they agreed to be circumcised. .....
But in three days, when the men of the city were sore, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword and came boldly upon the city, killing all the males. .....
And they killed Hamor and his son Shechem, with the sword, freeing Dinah from any ties to Shechem's house and left there. .....
So the sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and looted the city because their sister had been defiled. .....
They took their sheep, their oxen and their donkeyes, both that were in the city and that were out in the field, .....
Carrying off their property and all their household help; and they also took their wives captive when they robbed all that was in their houses. .....
Thereupon Jacob denounced Simeon and Levi, saying, "You have troubled me greatly making me unwelcome among the people of the land, among the Canaanities and the Perizzites, and since I am few in number, they will join together against us to finish me and my house." .....
But they responded, "Can he deal with our sister as though she were an harlot?" .....
