THE MELCHIZEDEK BIBLE
KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 33
GENESIS 33
1 When Jacob looked out, he saw Esau coming with four hundred men. But he had divided the children between Leah, Rachel and their two handmaids.
This part of KING JAMES VERSION will be added later on.
2 He placed the women servants and their children first, and Leah and her children were next, and Rachel and Joseph last.
.....
3 He then went on ahead of them, showing complete submission to Esau's position by bowing seven times as he approached his brother.
.....
4 But Esau ran to greet and embrace him, throwing his arms around his neck, and kissed him as they wept joyously.
.....
5 Then he looked up and saw the women and the children, and asked, "Who are those with you?" Jacob replied, "The children which God has graciously given me, your servant."
.....
6 As the women servants came near, they and their children bowed themselves.
.....
7 Then also Leah, with her children, approached and bowed themselves, and thereafter Rachel and Joseph approached and they bowed themselves.
.....
8 And he asked, "What is meant by all these droves which I met?" Jacob replied, "These are for you so that I may find grace in your sight, my lord."
.....
9 But Esau said, "I have enough, my brother, keep what you have for yourself."
.....
10 Then Jacob replied, "No, kindly accept my gift, if I have found favor in your sight, for therefore I have seen your appearance as the reflection of God and you were pleased with me.
.....
11 "So please take my gift that I have given you, because God has dealt graciously with me and because I have enough." Since he importuned him, he accepted it.
.....
12 He then said, "Let us start our journey and let us go, and I will lead the way for you."
.....
13 But Jacob replied to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender and the flocks and herds with their young are with me, so if the men push them too hard for one day, all the flock may die.
.....
14 "Will my lord kindly pass on ahead before his servant and I may follow at the pace that the livestock, which go before me, and the children, are able to endure until I might come to my lord in Seir^."
.....
15 Then Esau said, "Let me now leave with you some of the people that are with me." He replied, "Why is that necessary? Only let me find grace in the sight of my lord."
.....
16 So that same day Esau returned on his way to Seir.
.....
17 However Jacob traveled to Succoth^, where he built a house for himself, and shelters for his livestock. Therefore, that place is named Succoth.
.....
18 When Jacob came from Padan-aram, he arrived at Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is under the influence of Caanan, but his uplifting influence came upon the city.
.....
19 He acquired for a hundred pieces of silver a foothold in their field, from where his influence spread with the consent of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father,
.....
20 So Jacob elevated there an altar, and called it God is the God of Israel, or El-elohe-Israel.
