KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 29
GENESIS 29
1 Then Jacob continued his journey, and came to the state of the people of the eastern occult.
This part of KING JAMES VERSION will be added later on.
2 And looking, he beheld an omen - a fountainhead in the field of God's unfoldment; and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep by it, for out of that source were the flocks nourished, but a great stone was preventing them.
.....
3 That was where all the flocks gathered, and when they removed the obstruction from the well's mouth, they gave water to the sheep, replacing the stone again upon the mouth of the well.
.....
4 Then Jacob asked them, "My brethren, from where are you?" And they replied, "We are from Haran."
.....
5 He asked them, "Do you know Laban, the grandson of Nahor?" And they replied, "We know him."
.....
6 Then he asked them, "Is he well?" "He is well," they replied, "And, look, his daughter, Rachel, is coming with a fourth flock of sheep."
.....
7 And he said, "Lo, it is high noon, neither is it time that the flocks should be gathered together, so let them roll the stone from the well's mouth, and then we can give water to the sheep."
.....
8 But they said, "We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together and till all are ready to roll the stone from the well's mouth - that is when we give water to the sheep."
.....
9 While he was still speaking with them, Rachel arrived with her father's sheep, for she was the one who kept them.
.....
10 When Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and Laban's sheep, Jacob went to the well and rolled the stone from the well's mouth to give water to Laban's flock.
.....
11 Then Jacob kissed Rachel, and wept for joy aloud.
.....
12 Jacob told Rachel that his mother was her father's sister, and that he was Rebekah's son. Then she ran to tell her father.
.....
13 When Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister's son, he ran to meet him, and after embracing and kissing him, he brought him to his house. Then Jacob told Laban all that had happened.
.....
14 Laban said to him, "You surely are my own flesh and blood." He stayed with him for the entire month.
.....
15 Laban told Jacob, "Because you are a member of my family, should you serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?"
.....
16 Now Laban had two daughters, the older one was called Leah, and the name of the younger one was Rachel.
.....
17 Leah had sensitive eyes while Rachel was beautiful and pleasant to the sight.
.....
18 And Jacob loved Rachel, so his reply to Laban was that he would serve him for seven years for Rachel, his younger daughter, in marriage.
.....
19 Thereupon Laban stated, "It is better that I give her to you then to someone else; abide with me."
.....
20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, but they seemed to him as only a few days because of the love he had for her.
.....
21 At the appointed time, Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, since my agreed days are finished, so that I may live with her."
.....
22 Then Laban brought together all the people of the place and made a feast.
.....
23 But when it was in the evening, Laban took his daughter Leah and brought her to him, and Jacob went in with her.
.....
24 Also, Laban gave to his daughter Leah, his maid Zilpah, for an handmaid.
.....
25 When it became morning, behold, he found himself with Leah and he said to Laban, "What have you done to me? Did I not serve you for Rachel? Wherefore then have you beguiled me?"
.....
26 Laban replied, "It is not the custom in our country to give the younger daughter in marriage before the firstborn,
.....
27 "Complete Leah's bridal week and we will give you Rachel also, but you must serve me for another seven years."
.....
28 So Jacob accepted the changed terms and completed the festivities of Leah's bridal week, and Laban also gave his daughter Rachel in marriage to Jacob.
.....
29 Thereafter, Laban gave his handmaid, Bilhah, to Rachel his daughter to be her maid.
.....
30 Then Jacob was also married to Rachel, but he loved Rachel more than Leah, so he served Laban another seven years.
.....
31 As Leah was disfavored, she was nevertheless compensated by children, while Rachel remained sterile.
.....
32 So Leah conceived, giving birth to a son, whom she named Rueben^, for she said, "Surely I will be released from corporeal affliction; now therefore will my husband love me?"
.....
33 Again she conceived and gave birth to another son; she declared, "Because it is perceived that I am disfavored, I have therefore been given this son also"; and she named him Simeon^.
.....
34 Once again she conceived, giving birth to another son, and said, "Now this time my husband will be joined to me because I have given him three sons"; therefore she named him Levi^.
.....
35 Yet again she conceived, and gave birth to another son, upon whom she declared, "Now my corporeal beliefs will begin to disappear"; therefore she named him Judah^ and she stopped conceiving.
