KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 27
GENESIS 27
1 It came to pass, that when Isaac was advanced in years, and his sight was faint so that he could not see clearly, he called Esau, his firstborn, and said to him, "My son"; and he replied, "Behold, here am I."
This part of KING JAMES VERSION will be added later on.
2 And he said, "Behold, I am now advanced in years, I know not the day of my departure from you.
.....
3 "Now therefore, please, since you have your weapons and know well how to use them, that you demonstrate your skill, and go out into the field of God to bring me the fruit of your work.
.....
4 "And bring me zestful meat, such as I love; bring it so that I may partake thereof, so that my scientific sense may bless you before I depart^."
.....
5 And Rebekah overheard what Isaac had said to his son before Esau went to the field to hunt venison for Isaac.
.....
6 Thereupon Rebekah spoke to her son, Jacob, telling him, "Look, I overheard your father tell your brother, Esau,
.....
7 "'Bring me the fruit of your work, and make it the joyous meat of the Lord's field, that I may partake thereof, and bless you with my scientific sense of Being before my departure.'
.....
8 "Now therefore, my son, follow my commands.
.....
9 "Go now to the flock, and bring me from there two choice young goats, so I can make some delicious meat for your father, just as he likes it.
.....
10 "And you will take it to your father, that he may eat, and then he will have the occassion to bless you before he passes on from us."
.....
11 At which Jacob advised his mother, Rebekah, "Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man;
.....
12 "Perhaps my father will feel me, and I will appear to him to be a fraud; and I will bring a curse upon myself, rather than a blessing."
.....
13 Then his mother told him, "Let the curse fall upon me, my son, only honor your mother's command and bring them to me."
.....
14 Thereupon he honored his mother's command and brought them to his mother, so his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
.....
15 And Rebekah took the best clothes of her eldest son, Esau, which were in her house, and gave them to Jacob, her younger son, to wear.
.....
16 Also she gave him the goatskins to cover his hands and the smooth area of his neck;
.....
17 Then she gave Jacob savoury meat and bread, which she had prepared, to carry to his father.
.....
18 And he approached his father, saying, "My father"; and he replied, "Here am I; are you my heir in the line of light^, my son?"
.....
19 Then Jacob stated to his father, "I am in the line of light whom you call your firstborn, Esau; I have done as you asked; kindly sit up and partake of the fruit of my work, that your scientific sense of Soul may bless me."
.....
20 Isaac asked his son, "How is it that you have brought the fruit of your work so quickly, my son? Jacob replied, "Because the Lord your God gave it to me."
.....
21 Isaac requested of Jacob, "Please come nearer so that I may feel you, my son, whether you are my true heir or not."
.....
22 So Jacob moved closer to Isaac, his father, so that Isaac could touch him, and he said, "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hand's of Esau."
.....
23 But he discerned him not, because he felt the goatskins to be like the hands of his brother, Esau; so he blessed him.
.....
24 Then he asked, "Do you come to me as my true heir, my son, Esau? Jacob replied, "I am your true heir."
.....
25 Isaac said, "Bring it nearer me, and I will partake of the fruit of my son's work, that my spiritual sense of Soul may bless you." So he brought it nearer to him; when he did partake, he was inspired to drink and imbibe.
.....
26 When his father Isaac asked him, "Come near now, and kiss me, my son,"
.....
27 He came near, and kissed him; and when he detected the smell of his clothing, he blessed him, saying, "See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord blessed.
.....
28 Therefore God will reveal to you the refreshing fountainhead of harmonious Being, and the richness of its manifestation, and an abundance of nourishment and inspiration.
.....
29 Let the people serve you, and nations respect you; be master over your brethren, and let your mother's sons honor you; everyone that curses you is cursed, and whoever blesses you is blessed."
.....
30 It came to pass, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had scarcely left the presence of his father, Isaac, that his brother, Esau, returned from hunting.
.....
31 And Esau also had worked in the preparation of meat for his father, and brought it to his father, saying, "Let my father sit up and partake of the fruit of his son's work, that your spiritual sense might bless me."
.....
32 But his father, Isaac, declared, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am your firstborn son, Esau!"
.....
33 Thereupon Isaac trembled severely, asking, "Who? Where is he that has brought me the meat from his work, and I have partaken of all of it just before you arrived, and I have blessed him? Yea, and he will be blessed."
.....
34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried bitterly and begged his father, "Bless me too, even me also, O my father."
.....
35 But he replied, "Your brother came subtly, and has taken your blessing away from you"
.....
36 So he stated, "Is he not correctly called Jacob since he embraces duplicity? He has taken my place twice by treachery; he took away my birthright, and, behold, now he was taken away my blessing." And he added, "Have you not reserved a blessing for me?"
.....
37 Isaac answered Esau, saying, "Behold, I have made him your master, and all his brethren have I given him for attendants; and with nourishment and inspiration does the almighty I-am sustain him; so what can be done now for you, my son?"
.....
38 Thereupon Esau cried bitterly to his father, "Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, even me also, O Father-Mother God!" Then Esau, raising his voice, wept.
.....
39 So his father, Isaac, answered, saying, "Behold, your thought will dwell in the rapacity of the earth and you will seek moisture from the skies above;
.....
40 "You will live by your sword, and will serve your brother^; it will be that while you have the advantage, you will break his yoke from off your neck."
.....
41 This blessing which his father had bestowed on him caused Esau to hate Jacob, so Esau thought in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand; thereafter I will murder my brother Jacob."
.....
42 These intentions of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah, so she summoned Jacob, her younger son, and told him, "Look, your brother Esau, as concerning you, is now content by planning to murder you.
.....
43 "For that reason, my son, obey this command, get out of here and flee to my brother Laban in Haran;
.....
44 "And stay with him a few days, until your brother turns his anger away from you.
.....
45 "When your brother's anger has subsided, and he forgets the deed you have done against him, then I will send for you so you can safely come here again. Why should I lose you both in the same day?"
.....
46 Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am weary of my living among the daughters of Heth; if Jacob marries one of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are in this land, my life will not be worth living."
