THE MELCHIZEDEK BIBLE KING JAMES VERSION
GENESIS 16 GENESIS 16
Now Sarai^, Abram's wife, was not able to have children, but she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
Accordingly, Sarai told Abram, "Now behold, the Lord has kept me from having children; I ask that you go with my maid, so that I might obtain children by her," and Abram agreed to Sarai's proposal. And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
After Abram had dwelt ten years in a mental state of slavery to the physical senses, his wife, Sarai, took Hagar, her Egyptian maid, and gave her to him to be his wife. And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
So Hagar conceived a child by Abram, and thereafter, when she saw that she had conceived, she despised the sight of Sarai. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
But Sarai accused Abram, "You are guilty for my agony, since I allowed my maid in your arms, for when she saw that she had conceived, she despised the sight of me; may the Lord judge between us." And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.
Then Abram told Sarai, "Behold, your maid is under your authority, deal with her as you please." But when Sarai dealt cruelly with her, Hagar fled from her presence. But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thine hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
Now in the wilderness of human hopes, divine intuition came to her like a fountain of ideas on the difficult way to Shur. And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
And the revelation was, "Hagar, Sarai's maid, from where did you proceed? And what is your destiny?" She acknowleged, "I fled from the presence of my mistress Sarai." And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
Then divine intuitions directed her to return to her mistress and submit to her authority. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
And the Lord's revelation continued, "The almighty I-am will multiply your children exceedingly, that they will be too numerous to count." And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
Moreover, those divine revelations added, "Behold, you are to have a child - a son - whom you will call Ishmael, because the Lord has heard your affliction. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
"But he will become an unruly man, struggling against everyone, while dwelling separately in the presence of all his brethren." And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
So she defined the Lord's nature, which was revealed to her, as the God who knows me as reflection, for she declared, "Have I also here served the One that I reflect?" And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
Wherefore the source of this revelation was called Beer-Lahai-Roi, or the reflection of the living God, and behold, it is a sacred perception from the unsealing of Mind's fountains which once seemed frozen. Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
And Hagar gave Abram a son, whom Abram called Ishmael. And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
When Hagar presented Ishmael to him, Abram was eighty six years old. And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
