Dr. Dewey E. Painter wintered over at McMurdo Station Antarctica as a member of Operation Deep Freeze 1972-1973 Winter Over Team.  He was assigned to four aircraft carriers and one destroyer tender as ship’s company and seven ships as deployed unit assignments. Currently he serves as a Chaplain – Captain in the United States Air Force Auxiliary and Director of the Antarctic Research And Development Board. During his active service, Dr. Painter was decorated by all four services while serving three tours of duty in Vietnam.  He received 22 medals and decorations with multiple citations in addition to a large number of letters of accomplishments and achievements.
 
 

His military careen began as a private with the U. S. Army Reserve, 5th Army, Florida National Guard, 148AAA Battalion in May of 1958.  In July 1958 he entered active military service with the U. S. Navy as a Seaman Recruit and remained on active duty until June of 1980.  During his active military career he advanced through the enlisted ranks to E-8, AKCS, in the specialty of Aviation Supply, to Chief Warrant Officer CWO3 in the specialty of Supply Logistics, and to the officer ranks to Lieutenant, 03E, in the specialty of Aviation, General, Financial, Food Service and Retail Supply Logistics.
